Bloomingdale's Credit Card Basics

When it comes to using credit cards offered by luxury department stores, the key is to ensure that you take advantage of the extra allowances and incentives offered by stores to use credit cards. As far as Bloomingdales is concerned, it does not offer additional allowances and incentives for using Bloomingdale's Credit Card as many other luxury department stores do, which means that it needs some effort and management to optimize the benefits of using Bloomingdale's Credit Card. However, when you take advantage of the benefits offered by Bloomingdale's Credit Card effectively, you can get some huge rewards, which are usually paid in the form of extra purchases in Bloomingdales.

Advantage of Bloomingdale's Credit Card

The first day you open your card account, you are also presented with a 15% discount, as a welcome bonus. This discount applies only to purchases of up to $250. Which Bloomingdales credit card should you open? The table below explains the differences.

With the standard Loyallist store card,

shoppers receive 2 points per $1 spent on cosmetics, fragrances, and shoes purchased at either Bloomingdale’s or All other purchases will net you 1 point per $1.

If you opt for the Bloomingdale’s non-Amex store card,

you will earn more points per dollar, as well as receive some added perks. The points increase on this card to 3 points per $1 on in-store and online purchases, 6 points per dollar on all cosmetics, fragrances, shoes purchased at the store or on their website. You also receive a gift card for a free entrée or non-alcoholic beverage for every $100 spent at a Bloomingdale’s restaurant (though the order may not exceed $19).

With the Bloomingdale’s American Express credit card

you can earn the same number of Loyallist points on in-store purchases, as with the regular version of the card. Additionally, you can use the card outside of Bloomingdale’s. This way, you 4 points per $1 spent on all restaurant purchases, and 2 points per $1 with everything else.

Top of the List Status: Once you reach $3,500 in spending within a cardmember year, the benefits of the Top of the List Program will kick in. These include all previously mentioned Loyallist benefits as well as 4 points per dollar for in-store or online purchases, 8 points for cosmetics and fragrances, 8 points for any pair of shoes (when purchased online). The upgraded cards also give you free delivery (of up to $28) for all in-store purchases to a U.S. address, unlimited complimentary gift-wrapping services, and triple point days of your choice (this must be set up with a customer service representative at least one day in advance before shopping). There are no differences in Top of the List perks between the Amex and store-only versions of the credit card. The points you receive from shopping outside of Bloomingdales are not affected by this status.

Should You Get Bloomingdale's Credit Card?

If you're a frequent Bloomingdale's customer, who already spends over $3,500 at the store per year, there's no reason why you shouldn't get this card. We recommend going with the American Express version, as it will be of more use to you, if you ever need a line of credit outside of Bloomingdale's. If you are unsure of whether you'd be able to pay off the purchases you make with your credit card, then opt for the non-credit rewards card - this way you can still earn rewards points with Bloomingdale's, without paying ridiculously high interest rates. It is important to remember that the high APR demands that the entire balance be paid by the end of the billing cycle. If you are not able to do this, this is not a card that will benefit you in the way of savings. Any savings that you may accrued will be consumed by the interest on your unpaid balance.
